Dr. Trudi O’Neill

Dr. Hester G. (Trudi) O’Neill is the Interim Chair of the African Research Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ARNTD). She has been a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry in the Department of Microbial, Biochemical and Food Biotechnology at the University of the Free State since January, 2012. Dr. O’Neill’s current research focusses on the development of a low-cost rotavirus vaccine for use in Africa, specifically through the expression of virus-like particles in yeast, investigations into role of lipids during rotavirus-host interactions in rotavirus infection, and whole genome rotavirus characterization for strain diversity in Mozambique, using next-generation sequencing technologies.
