Profile

Benjamin Spears Ngmekpele Cheabu is a budding global health expert and Project Manager with the African Research Network for Neglected
Tropical Diseases (ARNTD), based at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research into Tropical Medicine (KCCR) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He has experience in public health and program management, with a specialised focus on adaptive project management, cross-border collaboration, and impactful stakeholder engagement. His background includes a key role with the International Federation of the Red Cross, where he led anticipatory action and community resilience efforts, driving multi-country initiatives across Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Gambia to implement early action protocols for environmental hazards.

Benjamin’s expertise was further strengthened by his experience with the Global Fund’s Country Coordinating Mechanism, where he managed Ghana’s $196 million New Funding Model 3 (2018–2020) for HIV, TB, malaria, and health systems strengthening, actively engaging with local implementers and international partners. At the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), he directed a $22 million HIV/TB community systems strengthening project (2021–2023), collaborating with 240 health facilities nationwide. He holds dual master’s degrees in Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation from KNUST and International Health from the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health.

ARNTD exists to support evidence-based control and elimination of NTDs from Africa by empowering current and future generations of African researchers.
